Building blocks for decentralized distributed systems and various attempts on anonymous networks have been around for a long time, but "Arab Spring" and the revelations of the post-Snowden era have pushed a plethora of new developments. This talk will attempt to give a structured overview of the major projects out there and which challenges they pose for OS and distributed systems design in a world of mobile first and cloud computing.
