Real time Communication at large scale in Dresden
Robert Hess
LogMeIn
Starting 1999 from a TUD startup our team developed client server infrastructures for
realtime communication over the Internet (being audio, video and screen sharing).
This journey lead us through at least two larger worldwide financial crises and
through a number of very interesting company constellations, eventually ending up
being part of Citrix and now LogMeIn. Over this period we grew and shrunk and grew
ending up with roughly 60 people currently, right in the middle of Dresden. Today we
are an assortment of interesting and very diverse personalities and skill sets, that
work on a large number of fields. I will shortly present which fields, and show a few
of the more interesting challenges where there is overlap broadly with operating
systems, systems engineering and generally running several thousand servers inhouse
and in AWS.
