Hardware Performance Variation: A comparative Study
Hannes Weisbach
TU Dresden
Now that OS noise has been tamed a new source of performance variability has emerged: the hardware. Starting with Haswell-EP Intel's processors moved from constant performance with varying power consumption to homogenous power consumption under load with varying performance.
This study is a first step towards proposing a benchmark suite to measure hardware-induced performance variability and to characterise performance variation across architectures.
