Hauptseminar-Vortrag

Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) allows near instant access to data when compared to hard or solid-state disks. Therefore, file systems have been identified as a key application area of this new technology, as NVM allows us to blend in pages into an application?s virtual memory without the need for copying it into DRAM. NOVA is one of the better-known file systems which rely upon NVM. Until now, NOVA lacked fault tolerance and reliability techniques found in other disk-based file systems, such as snapshots and checksum or redundancy-based error identification and correction. The contribution of this paper, NOVA-Fortis, is an addition on top of NOVA which introduces said techniques to NOVA, while providing the traditional file access measures and fast mapping into the virtual address space of one?s application. This presentation will present the design, implementation and evaluation of NOVA-Fortis, while considering performance and reliability tradeoffs introduced through the new design.
