Mapping the Cloud
Michael Roitzsch
TU Dresden
Cloud Computing is an area of high technological momentum. A lot of systems work now happens in the distributed services of cloud computing providers, so it is time that us operating systems folks recognize and understand this area of development. In this talk, I will try to walk through the existing cloud landscape from a systems point of view. We will look at the organization and layering of cloud services and touch on terms like IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. I use the two biggest cloud operators Amazon (AWS) and Microsoft (Azure) as examples to indulge in some educated guesses about the inner workings of their architecture. Corresponding open source initiatives and other providers will also be visited.
