The Energy-Aware Scheduler (EAS) enables the Linux kernel to consider the system energy consumption as an additional parameter (next to virtual runtime, fairness, and migration overhead) during the task scheduling routine. For this purpose the EAS uses a simple energy model of the current hardware. This model allows the scheduler to predict the changes in energy consumption of the system corresponding to its scheduling decisions.
This work analyzes the impact of the EAS patchset in terms of energy consumption and performance compared to the existing Completely Fair Scheduler (CFS).
