The official MTU for IP over ATM is 9180.  For LAN Emulation (Ethernet
format) it's the FDDI frame size (~4500) -- interestingly enough, NOT
the Ethernet limit.

In practice I'd expect frames to be <= 1500 in many cases, for example
if you're talking to hosts that reside on Ethernet.
