Getting something like a feature addition into GRUB1 is basically
impossible. GRUB1 is in deep freeze mode, no chance. One needs to fork
it, like I did. Things may look different for GRUB2 but I do not see
much activity there lately and it's still missing important things like
network support so that it's a no-go for me.
