I picked 0x113. It works. (The colors are not the best, but it's good enough)

I am planning to do DDE hacking for a bit as a possible trampoline for more involved work.

I saw that you require pretty standard (and minimal) GNU toolbox. 
Does [almost] everyone cross-compile from Linux? Is there a CD (or VM image) somewhere with pre-built development environment?
