Is there any chance you can make a disk image and combine it w/ a virtual machine such as vmplayer?

I made some notes:

Here is a link to a vmplayer setup that will launch any ISO and uses a shell script to create the vmx configuration file.  It seems that it can be de-tuned to accept a hard disk image: http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/374

Here is a white paper from vmware that has an example of a configuration file that is not too complex; it looks for a file.vmdk to boot from on page 10: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/ovf_whitepaper_specification.pdf

The better choice -- perhaps from the ethical point of view -- is the vbox, or virtual box.  Here is the link to their PDF instruction manual; it says you can supply it with a hd image: http://www.virtualbox.org/download/UserManual.pdf
