L4Re Library Usage

I have been able to get my module to compile as an ext-pkg. However I'm a little confused by the description of L4Re listed at http://os.inf.tu-dresden.de/L4Re/overview.html What exactly do I need to replace in my code to use the L4Re C or C++ libraries, or libstdc++ etc.? I didn't get any compilation errors with code that directly calls malloc() and I saw some other modules call malloc() too. But I would have thought all memory allocation/deallocation needs to be changed to use an L4 function.… [View More]

No configuration file found in build directory

I'm trying to add a new lib/server module to L4 but I'm having some trouble. I followed the snapshot top-level README suggestion to place the new code in an external directory, so I placed it into src/ mymodule/ next to src/l4re and src/l4linux. Then I created a Makefile under src/mymodule/src/ based on the example with include $(L4DIR)/mk/ lib.mk. Hello, Why was a sender's send item (e.g. mr[0] and mr[1] ) merged and stored into the receiver's mr[0]? Basically I have trouble understanding the following code. *rcv_words=(item->b.raw() & ~0x0ff7) | (sfp.raw())&0x0ff0); rcv_word +=2 ; Why didn't we use receiver's mr[1] as well? In the case of page fault handling IPC, the pf address stored in sender's mr[1] is not used ? Thanks. Chen

writing my own filesystem for L4

Hello. I'm going to write a filesystem for L4, using the tmpfs (l4/pkg/tmpfs) as a starting point. However, I would like to know whether there are any tools I could use to test the filesystem. The tool I would love to have should display all registered filesystem and should allow me to walk through filesystem's directory trees. Is there such a tool or example application? Are there any packages in L4 which use VFS layer at all? regards, Michal. -- Michal Schulz

Hi Adam, I don't have a separate PHDR for ctors. I got this problem when I put ctors into the text section. Now I have moved ctors into the data section and the problem disappeared. Any ideas? Another questions is why ktext=0x90909090 in the ld file of fiasco.oc? Is this value randomly chosen? Thanks. Hello, I am trying to use C++ to write my own root task. I found that if I declare a static or global object, bootstrap complains that two regions belonging to my root task overlapped and thus cannot proceed. Why does my root task have two conflicting regions? According to the bootstrap report, they both have the correct starting address, but one ends just at the global object's ctor in .ctors section, while the other region covers the entire program.
