Bugs in Semaphore implementation in Fiasco.OC?

Hello, I wonder if the following two problems are bugs. 1. In u_semaphore.cpp, function wakeup_locked, (around line 189): w->state_change_dirty(~Thread_ipc_mask, Thread_ready); If thread w is running on a different core than thread c, assertion in function state_change_dirty will fail. I think it should be w->state_change_dirty(~Thread_ipc_mask, Thread_ready, false); 2. In u_semaphore.cpp, function block_locked, (around line 146): c->state_del_dirty(~Thread_ipc_mask) should be c->state_del_dirty(Thread_ipc_mask). kernel.ld.arm virt_address

I'm trying to understand where the value of virt_address inside kernel.ld.arm is coming from. The value is currently 0xf0000000 and the kernel's interrupt vector table is placed at 0xffff0000. On my Cortex-A9 + uATX Versatile Express board this corresponds to the HSB AXI (peripherals communication bus). The memory map for the RealView Emulation Baseboard maps the 0xf0000000 area to logic tile site 2. An objdump of the fiasco image shows that a number of kernel sections are being placed into 0xf0000000 and higher. And things work, but I would think that the correct address should be somewhere in RAM. (RAM which you then have to not withhold from sigma0.) When I try to move the virt_address and .ivt address to somewhere in DRAM like 0x90000000 and 0x9fffffff respectively the kernel fails to load. Maybe because access is restricted although I don't think the MMU would have been turned on yet (but I haven't yet found the place where the MMU is turned on--I would guess by sigma0 or fiasco). I found out there is "bootstrap -comport=<com#>" but I don't know how to use it..Maybe it's not the only solution and not the best one... Can someone share some experiences? Thank you. Booting multiple instances of L4 Linux

Hello, I'm trying to boot 2 instances of L4 linux on top of Fiasco.OC micro kernel but I get an error during the checksum verification. I tried to boot a L4Linux and a hello, it was ok but not with 2 L4Linux. I would like to boot 2 l4Linux on a Beagleboard emulated by QEMU (The error is not from QEMU) The output is: " Verifying Checksum ... Bad Data CRC ERROR: Can't get kernel image!" L4CON with client

Hello. I am trying L4Re with Fiasco.OC. I have successfuly build l4re-snapshot. Now I am trying to run examples. I am always building iso images with make grub2iso. Now I am editing .cfgs and .list files. I am trying to get working L4CON. The L4Con runs okay, saying: con | Running. Video mode is 800x600@16. con | Ready. Waiting for clients Now I suppose I need some client to work with L4CON. I have tried fbterminal, but it doesn't work. (Or i am missing something in .cfgs) I have added fbterminal to run after "con", but in logs it runs earlier ang log says: fbdrv | Starting server loop mmag | mapped frame buffer at 0x400000 fbtermin| Could not bind event IRQ How can I achive to get some console with for example dash running? Disko UI Framework porting

Hi all! I executed porting of Disko (http://www.diskohq.com/ ) to use in L4Re. Archive with dependencies and patches http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8558928/disko.tar.bz2 1. Differences of Disko original source code I changed *.cpp files name extension to *.cc. I didn’t build a library from *.cpp files. I added files enabling working with framebuffer (mmsgui/fb/mmsfbl4re.cc) and L4Re input subsystem (mmsinput/mmsinputl4rehandler.cc). Virtual file system(VFS) added (mmstool/vfswrapper.cc) for implementation of access at application resources (image, xml form files). Libwhefs library was used for it (http://code.google.com/p/whefs/) 2. Known issues The input system link handler has has only the functions I needed. The touchscreen calibration function was added to mmsinputl4rehandler.cc, but it’s not the best solution. The best solution would be a separate server for the input subsystem that routes handled events to other applications. To simplify the touchscreen handler coding I added a patch to input. See input.patch. L4Re video API function bits_per_pixel returned incorrect pixel size because it was calculated as a sum of R, G, B and A fields sizes. I have used RGB32 format with A field length equal to 0 bits. That’s why the returned total length was 24 bits instead of 32 bits. See video.patch The realloc sometimes malfunctions. But I couldn’t recreate conditions to make this malfunctions repeat. Shared library libdisko.so not building. 3. Comments For application compilation the following utilities are required: taff (from disko tools), whefs-mkfs and whefs-cp (from libwhefs). It was used for creating VFS-image (see examples). You must to build this utilities manually and add they to PATH. For example, to build disko/examples/tutorial/01 vfs-image you need to execute cd disko/examples and run ./convert.sh tutorial/01 I use Gumstix Overo platform with lcd 4.3" and ads7846 touchscreen, drivers added to archive. modules.list and configs added to disko/examples For correct work on ARM you must apply patch from Adam for pthread ( http://os.inf.tu-dresden.de/pipermail/l4-hackers/2011/004992.html ). Hi, I saw someone ran into this same problem a couple of years ago but I didn't see a solution posted. I just updated my OS to Ubuntu 11 and all of a sudden I am hitting this error when I run make setup and target either x86 or ARM. gcc: symbol lookup error: ...libgendep.so: undefined symbol: dlsym I see -ldl on the gcc line when building libgendep.so, but when I ldd libgendep.so it only prints linux-gate.so.1, libc.so.6, and /lib/ld-linux.so.2. libdl.so.2 exists and is in my ld cache. omap3 usb platform and other

Hello. I would like to discuss with you platforms supported in l4linux. l4linux good working on "vanilla" arm platform, but when we try to use a board specific devices - for example USB, we have some problem with full device support in sources. For example, USB gadget need musb, witch need twl4030, which need i2c, which need clock and power domain initialisation, and all of this part placed in arch/arm/omap. In next mail attachment you can find the our kernel, which support usb on Overo Gumstix platform. We copied sources from arch/arm/omap to arch/l4/kernel/arch-arm/ and made it work. Most of them serious changed, but we tried to save structure. I don't thing what its good solution, but it real working and someone who ask USB support on arm can use it. So, what you think about full board/platform supporting? any idea? Can this solution may be pushed to SVN? I understand that this code should be more clear, and I think it would be better if he would be on the Internet. Incidentally, this is the second version, we have previously done this for kernel 2.6.xx, and it is very difficult to keep a local copy and make regular merge. The other thing which i would like discuss is configuration management for l4re build. With a time, count of a package will be increased, and, like now, the compiling of l4re take a long time. Do you plan in this direction some work? For example, you could make small configuration files for compiling only requirements, similar to Control -- Sartakov A. Vasily

Hello, I tried to run L4linux on a beagle board. Mouse and keyboard on L4Android

Hi, Short: how to get an USB mouse/keyboard working on L4Re? Long: I'm having some difficulties to get my keyboard and mouse on a beagleboard working. I noticed that the io file of the realview-eb includes the keyboard and mouse hardware addresses, since they are mapped to dedicated registers [1] on this board. The beagleboard doesn't have such registers. Found only USB EHCI register addresses and the related interrupt number. So, I'm trying to connect an USB mouse and USB keyboard over the EHCI USB port. Does L4Re support only PS/2 devices? Or also USB input devices? Is USB working on L4Linux/L4Android? I defined USB in my io file as following (for beagleboard): USB => new Device() { .hid = "usb"; new-res Mmio(0x48064000 .. 0x48064fff); new-res Irq(77); } Can L4Linux access now to the USB interface, or are any further steps required? Hi, During looking into the source code of v_insert() function in mem_space-arm.cpp file, I found two cases where it returns improper Mem_space::Status. Case #1 When the size parameter of v_insert() is 0x100000 (that is, section mapping is asked), and the entry in the corresponding first-level page table indicates a coarse second-level page table (that is, it’s already valid) and only the entry in the second-level table is invalid: v_insert() function returns Insert_OK status. But it seems proper to return Insert_err_exists because there is already valid entry and inserting a new entry fails. Case #2 When the size parameter of v_insert() is 0x1000 (that is, 4KB small page mapping is asked), and the memory allocation for creating a coarse second-level page table fails in Page_table::walk() function: v_insert() returns Insert_OK status. But it seems proper to return Insert_err_nomem because due to memory shortage inserting a new entry fails. I wonder my understanding is right. Cheers, Junghyun Yoo

l4sigma0_map_iomem Allowed Addresses

I'm having some trouble understanding the acceptable values usable in a call to l4sigma0_map_iomem. It looks like the way for me to request a map from an available physical address block to a virtual memory address that can be used by the program. Perhaps I am lacking a more fundamental understanding of the ARM memory model. But what addresses should be allowed? My Verstaile Express board has 1GB RAM starting at physical address 0x60000000 but I can't use this address. I immediately get an error. I also tried starting at 0x80000000. (The L4 Bootloader seems to be using memory at 0x60000000 for its own purposes anyway.) Error: Cannot map physical memory: (-2147451404) No fpage received If I try to get size 0x04000000 from address 0x08000000 it works fine. hello everyone! i am a student from china. recently i did some research on Fiasco. i wonder how can i download the previous releases of fiasco,l4re and l4linux. i found the latest version of fiasco,l4re and l4linux here at http://os.inf.tu-dresden.de/download/snapshots-oc/.i want to get l4linux with the linux kernel 2.6.32 or 2.6.34 or 2.6.35 and the compatible fiasco microkernel and l4re. i have another question. now the fiasco microkernel becomes fiasco.OC.when did it get this changes? and what does it mean with the name of the version like fiasco-2011081207. i am beginner with so much doubt and waiting for request of teachers. thanks! Is there a way to build a non-PIC shared library with l4env?

Hi, I am trying to establish a shared arena for loading DLL's, i.e. a shared memory region, in which DLL's are loaded at the same address in each address space. I also need some ELF shared library loaded at fixed address, so I could call routines in .so from these DLL's (yes, a mixed case: LX format DLL's calling an ELF shared object, this shared object is a client library for some servers, and I want to call their API's from DLL's). So, I intend to load a shared oblect at fixed address to be the same in different address spaces. But the l4env build system seems to produce PIC shared objects only, and no suitable example. Is there any way to compile a non-PIC shared object with l4env build system? I also hope the 'loader' server will load the shared library at pre-compiled address. Maybe, also the PIC ones could be loaded at desired address (I know that, at least, libloader.s.so is loaded at fixed address, but maybe, this is a single hardcoded case) Thanks in advance, valery

Ankh examples

Hello, Hackers! How can I start ankh examples? I think I need use src/l4/pkg/ankh/doc/ankh.lua. But what is "require ("Aw");" and what must I write to files ankh.vbus and modules.list for x86 qemu? I use l4re-snapshot-2011081207. Thanks.
