Hello all I'm currently trying compil current Fiasco Kernel under Cygwin, unfortunatly I have a problem of compilation. when compiler try compil kip.cc I have an assembler message that said: Error: junk at the end of line, first unrecognized character is ',' Any Idea? ddekit and dde linux2.6

Hi, I'm trying to understand ddekit and hopefully to port it to Hurd. It seems that ddekit is still under active development. What is its current development status? I read http://demo.tudos.org/dsweeper_tutorial.html, which said that new features such as hotplugging and power management would be added ddekit but it was in 2006. Have those features been added to ddekit? Is it possible for me to move the Linux USB driver on the top of dde without modification? What is the status of dde linux2.6 (I mean the one in the directory l4/pkg/dde_linux26)? Is it still under development? Does it support the features I mentioned above? Thank you, Zheng Da

The errors i tried to map iomem to virtual memory

Hello: I tried to map the hpet iomem to the virtual memory but i got some error. The log is as following: vtimer | rmgr_pager 4:0 vtimer | hpet_address 0xfed00000 vtimer | hpet size 0x400000 vtimer | hpet_virt_address 0x400000 ROOT: Cannot map page at fed00000 log2_size=12 failed vtimer | IOMem mapping error : No fpage received vtimer | __handle_pf(): L4RM: page fault: no entry in region list vtimer | L4RM: [PF] read at 0x00400000, ip 0100024e, src 8.02 It seems that when I map the iomem the pagesize is not permitted but superpagesize is ok. Some Errors in DDE

hi, I'm porting a sound card(ens1370)to DDE, but found some errors in the function of kobj_map whic is in map.c(l4/pkg/dde/linux26/contrib.drivers/base/map.c) What's more, I check the ELF format of this sound card.The error is in the address of 821607. ex_regs system call is forzed in the do_ipc process

Hello: When i use the ex_regs system call to trigger the exception ipc it seems to be frozed in the do_ipc stange. I use jdb to debug this current thread lists is like this: 9.04 l4ertl.exceptio 10 9.03 rcv,ipc_progr 9.03 l4ertl.timer0 10 9.02 rcv,ipc_progr 9.02 domain2.main 10 9.04 rcv,ipc_progr,exc_progr l4ertl.exceptio is the pager of domain2.main. And now l4ertl.timer0 is executing ex_regs system to trigger exception for domain2.main. l4ertl.exceptio is waiting for the exception ipc from the l4ertl2.main2. In detail l4ertl.exceptio is in ipc (user level registers). l4ertl.timer0 is in ipc (user level registers), too. domain2.main is in the exception 255. It seems to be dead lock in the kernel. Hello, Adam: Now the demo could work according to your design. And this demo is so simple only to emulate the situation we talked about before. I introduced a little about this demo: 3 threads: timer_thread, exception_thread, main_thread main_thread emulates the behaviour of system which is a endless loop to output. the function body is thread_func1. timer_thread emulates the behaviour of timer thread which could trigger the exception periodically. exception_thread emulates the behaviour of handling interrupt. The function body is exception_handler. When the timer_thread modify the status of main_thread with flag L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_RAISE_EXCEPTION. The main thread will be suspend and the exception_thread could get the exception ipc from main_thread. Exception_thread will modify the ESP and EIP in the utcb and then reply to main thread. The main thread will resume to the function about handling interrupt. When the handling interrupt function is over. The main thread could go back to the status before the exception happens. Split console with two keyboards

Hi, I would like to know if it is possible in any of the L4* systems to have a setup like the following: * The console (framebuffer) to be split into two frames/windows, say top and bottom halves, but, each one should be used/accessed independently of each other. * With two keyboards connected to this single system, one should be able to use (shell) one of the keyboards with the top window, while the other should use the bottom one. Hello: From the l4-x2 manual it is said the reply from the exception handler contains a label, an instruction pointer where the faulting thread is resumed. I want to know whether it is implemented in the Fiasco. I try to do this. Modify the utcb before send ipc resume the exception thread but it seems no any effect about the instruction pointer and stack pointer of resumed exception thread. Thanks. Cheng Guanghui

Hi, I am back with my problem with UTCB IPC. To sum up the context : I use pure l4env applications. Here is the scenario between my server and my client : 1. client makes an UTCB IPC to manager. Manager does an l4rm_area_reserve, creates a rcv_fpage, creates worker and sends back worker thread id to client. 2. client allocates memory and associated flexpage and sends it to server. 3. UTCB IPC is sent to worker with 3 parameters : - on client side : utcb->values=0xbff00200: arg1=0x2 arg2=0x1 arg3=0x6 - on server side : utcb->values=0xbff00200: arg1=0x241401 arg2=0x0 arg3=0x7069776c It seems that 0xbff00200 is not mapped on the same memory on client and server side. As there is no problem for first IPC (utcb->values is also 0xbff00200), is there any potential problem with flexpage ? As utcb->values is still the same, what happens if several threads try to make UTCB IPC ? Another question : when I link my application with liblogserver.a, I have strange logs : .rm.sem.mainMain function returned. It seems that .rm .sem and .main are added by l4env, but I didn't find where. Regards Marc

Hello: In the present implementation of exception ipc the two registers are not used but only given with 0. It seems a little bit waste. I mean in the page fault ipc the two registers include address where page fault occurs and instruction pointer which causes the page fault. Can we make exception ipc includes two registers with the next/current eip and esp? It seems not to be bad for this system call because it is a little bit strange that this exception ipc doesn't includes anything useful. Thanks. Cheng Guanghui

Pagefault by running L4Linux 2.6.29 on Fiasco

Hi L4-Hackers, I have some serious problems running L4Linux (linux-2.6.29-l4) on Fiasco. As the attached serial output shows, the L4Linux startup ends with a page fault error. Unfortunately I have no clue why this error happends and hope that one of you can help me solving it. Both, Fiasco and L4Linux have been compiled on an Ubuntu 9.04 system, using the gcc-3.4.6 (same with gcc-4.3) compiler. Thanks in advance! Hello: i want to know whether to know the register info changes before and after one system call for one thread. Especially, the l4_thread_ex_regs could change the pc of one thread. Hello: Is there method to check the registers viaration info before and after one special system call for one thread with the help of JDB. I checked all the options but i can't find one. What i want to know is about the l4_thread_ex_regs system call. We know it could modify the instruction pointer, stack pointer and pager thread or get the current instruction pointer, stack pointer and pager thread. When we modify the instruction pointer to a new one but put the stack pointer the same i want to understand what happens in this thread stack. Thanks. cheng guanghui

Hello: I checked the crt0_x.S in the crtx package and find something interesting. In the crt0_x.S the main function is named __main() but not main() normally. But in the normal function we still use main() but not main() i want to know where to address with the symbol __main() by the address of main() in the real application. Hello: I try to run the same two duplicate components on top of Fiasco but there is an error about memory overlapping problem. Hello,everyone: I have built a parport server based on dde, and test it through on fiasco. Now I want to booting it together with l4linux, but there are conflict occured. And I have some questions to ask: 1. I used the l4linux-2.6.30 kernel, now to booting it besides fiasco default config, there is [ *] Enable I/O port protection feature must need, isn't it? It not needed in l4linux-2.6.23 kernel or earlier. 2. Will this feature prevent the other server to access to the io port? I seems meeting this problem, my parport server(#b) want to access the port 077a, but system say the owner is #a(l4io), even I set the parport priority higher than l4io, it also the same problem. the last error message is like follow: ............................... server | <6>parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [PCSPP,TRISTATE] server | <6>parport0: irq 7 detected ROOT: Cannot send port 077a to task #0b, owner is #a ROOT: task B.00 at 01804299 is trying to get I/O port 077a allocated by task 0b. ................................ How can I do could make the parport server run together with the l4linux, or to make it could access the port it needed? Any help is precious. Best Regards! ding

hi all, could someone tell me how to get the thread id when do the open_call()/close_call()? or we can get the thread id unless wo do the l4_ipc_send() operation? I only want to get the thread id who do the open_call()/close_call() operation? When more than one task do the operation The server can store the thread id. thank you and best wishes. one question about l4_thread_ex_regs flags

Hello: About the l4_thread_ex_regs system call there are 2 flags related with exception ipc. I only know the thread with these flags could generate the exception ipc but i don't know what is the difference between these flags: L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_RAISE_EXCEPTION , L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_ALIEN and L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_ALIEN | L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_ALIEN. So, i write a following program to test the behaviour with different flags : void idle(void *data) { l4_sleep(1000); l4_sleep(1000); l4_sleep(1000); l4_sleep(1000); l4_sleep(1000); } int main() { ... l4_threadid_t me = l4_myself(); l4thread_create(idle, NULL, L4THREAD_CREATE_ASYNC); ... l4_thread_ex_regs_flags(idle_thread, ~0UL, ~0UL, &_preempter, &me, &o, &o, &o, L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_RAISE_EXCEPTION | L4_THREAD_EX_REGS_ALIEN); while(1) { l4_ipc_wait(&src, ...); printf("thread :%d:%d\n", src.id.task, src.id.lthread); } } I tried 3 combination about these 2 flags but the output is the same as this: exceptio| thread :8:3 i don't know why there is only one exception ipc. But the idle function includes 5 system calls. Additionally, it seems the ALIEN state is TEMPORARILY. I set once there is one exception ipc, twice two exception ipc. Can you explain me? Thanks.
