SATA AHCI driver head banging.

Hi, I am trying to build a SATA driver for our Fiasco.OC personality. The h/w is a Intel 82801J IOCH in a PC platform. I get can pick up the device in the PCI, get BAR5 and map in the control registers. I then initialize the card (into AHCI mode), set up memory (command list and command tables) and try to do an IDENTIFY_DEVICE command. The command issues, and returns a PIO Setup FIS (type 5f). PxTFD.STS.DRQ=1 PxTFD.STS.BSY=0 PxSERR=0 PxSACT=1. The PIO setup FIS indicates a transfer count of 512 bytes (which is correct). All good so far, but then no interrupt happens and no more FISes appear - and I don't know what to do next. The same behavior occurs on another PC platform with a IOCH9 controller. I have not done anything w.r.t. configuring or re-routing IRQs in the PCI subsystem (a black hole to me). Is there something that is a must that I'm clearly missing here?? Any clues, much appreciated. Daniel

Hi Adam, My final objective is just to get the graphic acceleration working, so having the gpu initialized by fbdrv is perfectly fine but I can't find a working configuration. What we have are two configs which work well separately (fbdrv and pci direct access) but we didn't understand yet how to combine them. I can see the log messages from fbdrv of setting the vbe mode in fbdrv config(without mag) but when I combine fbdrv and pci direct access configs I cannot see any message from fbdrv. Abhishek Gupta

Hi, I would like to build a Linux application which also uses L4 services. So, I tried to use l4linux mode in my makefile. But I have this compilation error : "arm-none-linux-gnueabi/bin/ld: cannot find -l4lx-re.o". I don't know how to build this lib. L4Android performance issue

Hi, I just got a chance to run both L4Android and Android-x86 on an Asus EEE PC to measure their performance. In short, it seems to me that mag is causing some problem. I ran the Android web browser, and measured the page load latency to measure the performance of both system. I tried to keep the configuration of both side the same. For example, both system only use VESA, and they share the same userspace binaries. L4Android did well in some cases, however, I saw more than 2x slow down from L4Android (notably http://www.android.com) I suspect that this comes from mag -- I noticed that the graphics performance of L4Android is not great, for example, even boot animation lags on L4Android. I suspect it'll take some time to fix, so is there a way to disable mag and let l4linux takes care of the frame buffer directly? Thanks. ~Haohui

Hi Adam, It is not decided yet which graphics card will be used. Basically, we are just trying to check whether the idea of doing this works or not. If I can get xserver running on l4linux on kvm then the graphics card will be decided. Do you have any suggestions?? Abhishek Gupta

Questions about L4 virtual machines

Hi! I'm trying to port an OSEK OS to L4. I know that a guest OS runs as a L4 process from Fiasco's point of view. But I have also noticed relevent APIs such as the l4vcpu_* family, VM API for SVM, VMX, and TZ, and the vCPU API of threads. My questions are as follows: 1. What are the differences between a VM and an ordinary process? 2. Is it possible to run a guest OS without utilizing VM/vCPU APIs? 3. What does a guest OS have to do in order to run on L4Re and Fiasco? Is there a guide for doing this? I'm new to L4 and probably need concrete instructions. Thank you in advance!

Tasks priority and time slice

Hi, I am running two para-virtualized OS on L4RE. I would like to define tasks priority and time slice. The real time scheduling extensions does not seem to be implemented on ARM. But I have find this code in a Ned example: scheduler = L4.Env.mem_alloc:create(L4.Proto.Scheduler, 0x78, 0x70) I don't understand how to use second and third arguments. Regards, Pierre Larus
